Sara SilvermanOn Tuesday, March 30, 2010, Lexus will introduce the CT 200h premium compact hybrid for the first time to North America with an original event – a debate between a proponent and a skeptic of climate change.

Welcome to the darker side of green.

The exchange, moderated by the one and only Sarah Silverman, will include the journalist and author of Power Trip Amanda Little (the proponent) debating the director and producer of Not Evil Just Wrong Phelim McAleer (the skeptic).

“Lexus hybrid vehicles have been designed to appeal to both the eco-minded and those unwilling to compromise on luxury and style,” said David Nordstrom, Lexus vice president of marketing. “We thought The Darker Side of Green debate was an intriguing way to express this multi-faceted appeal of the new CT 200h.”

Sarah Silverman, comedian, Emmy award-winning writer, and star of Comedy Central’s The Sarah Silverman Program, is sure to bring her unique perspective and edge to this appealing, and unprecedented, pre-launch event. When asked why she agreed to be involved in the event, Silverman replied, “I like the idea that a big schmancy company like Lexus is willing to engage in an unpredictable debate.”

The debate includes two respected, and often lighthearted, thought-provoking leaders on either side of the eco discussion.

Moved earlier in her journalistic career by the events of 9/11 and the 2003 New York City blackout, Amanda Little set out on a cross-country journey to investigate the United States’ energy use. The result was Power Trip, a book chronicling America’s history and relationship with fossil fuels, as well as Little’s perspective on the most promising renewable energy technologies that could replace our current energy sources. When asked about her thoughts on McAleer’s work, Little responded, “The guy is hilarious – he’s a prankster, he’s a showboat, he’s a provocateur, and he’s dead wrong.” Little continued, “But he’s hardly lacking of moxie. I can’t wait for the debate.”

In 2006, Irish journalist and filmmaker Phelim McAleer produced Mine Your Own Business, one of the first films that asked difficult questions of the environmental movement. His 2008 documentary, Not Evil Just Wrong, explores what McAleer views as the negative impacts of green policy and questions scientific claims made by prominent global warming proponents. Asked what he thought of Little’s work, McAleer responded, “I think it is very interesting, but in the end, very pessimistic.” McAleer continued, “She sees energy usage as a problem, I see it as a sign of progress.”

The undoubtedly exhilarating exchange will be immediately followed by DJ sets from NY’s audio and style connoisseurs - DJs Paul Sevigny and The Misshapes. Debate attendees will be treated to passed hors d’oeuvres provided by Lexus that will satisfy the most discerning of foodie palates. Libations provided compliments of Patrón Spirits for attendees’ responsible enjoyment.

The Lexus CT 200h is the production version of the LF-Ch concept car unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and was styled with optimum aerodynamic efficiency. Its size, packaging and hybrid technology meet the requirements of the discerning, environmentally conscientious consumer in the emerging premium compact market. It offers no compromise on the quality, refinement and driving pleasure that hallmark the progressive luxury inherent in every Lexus.

Lexus engineers paid particular attention to the driving dynamics of the CT 200h. It’s fun-to-drive experience is aided by the lowest possible center of gravity for the car, enhanced structural rigidity, unique lateral stabilizers to minimize unnecessary engine movements, a custom suspension design, and a front and rear body-damping system – a first to the Lexus line-up - to minimize undesirable body vibrations. All of these design elements help ensure the handling prowess of the CT 200h without sacrificing the unequaled comfort to which Lexus drivers have become accustomed.

The Darker Side of Green will undoubtedly be THE event of the 2010 New York Auto Show. For more information, to schedule an interview, or to attend The Darker Side of Green, please contact Patrick Courrielche at 323.464.0724 or Patrick@inform-ventures.com.

Please review the ice core data that shows that CO2 is a trailing result of global warming...that is, CO2 is an effect NOT a cause.
Check out unstoppable solar cycles. You'll probably need a definition of HUBRIS for the AGW faithful that wish to control the sun & tides etc.
You need not mention that GREEN is the new RED.

The more the darker side subjects itself to debate the more they become ridiculed. I predict an overwelming win for Phelim.
Just make sure you are prepared for the ultimate argument the green reds use.. " but what about the children"

Philem failed
According to first person account, Silverman won based on her command of humor. Little took the presenting facts and supporting her position titles and Phelim got the most boos.
