“The judge identified nine aspects of An Inconvenient Truth, nine core errors, where Al Gore either misstated the IPCC or prejudicially exaggerated what they found.” John Day is the lawyer for a British parent who sued the British Department
of Education when they tried to distribute An Inconvenient Truth to schools.
James Cameron – Grow Up

James CameronJames Cameron is looking to fill Al Gore's shoes, but Ann McElhinney, the Director of Not Evil Just Wrong, isn't afraid attack the lies and hypocrisies of any eco-billionaire, whether they be an ex-vice president or a favorite for this year's Oscars.

James Cameron recently began trumpeting Avatar as the greenest movie in history, comparing it to An Inconvenient Truth.

“I wanted to do a film that had a deeply embedded environmental message,” Cameron told local public radio host Elvis Mitchell.

Cameron is right to compare his move to Al Gore's documentary, because while Avatar is a beautiful story the underlying message is absolute rubbish.  Access to cheap energy has brought jobs and innovation to the modern world.  Those in developing nations are desperate to have the opportunities Cameron takes for granted, and it is wrong for his film to portray poverty as an idealistic way of life.

As Ann said, James Cameron—grow up.

The Canaan Creed by L. P. Hoffman
The Canaan Creed by L. P. Hoffman is a literary fiction novel dealing with the culturally relevant issue of radical environmentalism. This book uses mystery suspense to make the point that solving current environmental problems requires us to work more closely with the people who live on the landscape, to apply the principle of "cooperative conservation," and to employ "alternative dispute resolution" processes. Because The Canaan Creed makes these points so well in the neutral medium of fiction, many reviewers have said The Canaan Creed should be required reading in environmental science programs.

Why—even though our environment has improved—do millions of Americans believe our world is teetering on the brink of destruction? Environmentalists are influencing people through the entertainment industry.

It all started with the 1975 novel, The Monkey Wrench Gang. Over time, this work of fiction became a manifesto for radical environmentalism and it paved the way for thousands of other novels that depict mankind as an eco scourge.

You can count on your fingers the number of times that fiction has been used to expose the dark side of environmentalism. Michael Crichton’s novel, State of Fear, and L. P. Hoffman’s new release, The Canaan Creed, are among them.

Deeply embedded
I'd like to deeply embed this movie into James Cameron. Sorry for the immature comment. Pseudo-environmentalists like James Cameron and Al Gore bring out the worst in me.

I'd like to bet either of them $1.00 that they couldn't survive one month in the Australian outback without reliance on fossil fuels.

The People vs. Big Business & The Military Industrial Complex
This is a far different, yet interesting, interpretation of the movie Avatar than I walked away with after viewing it. I am fully aware of climategate and what the real intentions of the IPCC, Copenhagen, Cap n Trade are and do not buy into the CO2 claims. However, I did not see this movie as being about the 'dangers' of overpopulation and man-made climate change. My impression of the movie is that it is a commentary on the interests of Big Business trying to make a quick buck aided by the Military Industrial Complex at the expense of the common man. We have seen this occur time and again through out history, indeed the US is what it is today because we ourselves did this to the Native American. The US continues to do this today in the Middle East under the guise of the 'War on Terror'.

I fail to see where in the movie the Navi are villainized for being the cause of climate change or accused of over population. The movie doesn't suggest that they are an impoverished suffering people in need of natural resources to elevate their standard of living. It is the military and big business men who are there to make a buck and satisfy shareholders by any means necessary even if they need to kill the indigenous people, as usual, to get what they want.

Environmentalism? Really?
I watched that movie and came out of it merely impressed with the use of 3D. I think what many people got out of that movie was nothing more than mind blowing effects. Also some people thought it might be cool to run around as a big blue giant humanoid. James Cameron and his film was horribly childish and within 10 minutes one could predict every outcome in the rest of the film. The characters were stereotypical archetypes and the film was essentially a "David and Goliath" show down. But to say that it was a direct environmental message? Come on, the movie was so far removed from reality, and today's problems it hardly even resembles our universe. It directly implies that technology and big business led mankind to a future filled with cryogenic freezing, technological advancement. Knowing that there was some kind of US World army, and that space travel had become economically viable due to some "un-obtainium" (lol) it showed that capitalism and technology undid all our problems on earth despite a continued disregard for the environment.

On reflection of James Cameron, he failed to make his audience consider our consuming behaviors or our morals as a society. Like the comment "The People vs. Big Business.." I agree that it was just a film about greedy nasty corporations, the 21st centuries feudal lords, doing anything for wealth despite the social implications. Maybe he made a stand against war, maybe he wanted to make a memorable movie, maybe and most probably he wanted to make money. This film like any other of its kind will be forgotten by the proletariat and the next movie, whether its 3D or 4D or whatever gimmick gets people to buy movie tickets, will displace avatar from the limelight only to be displaced by yet another bad movie. smilies/tongue.gif
