“The judge identified nine aspects of An Inconvenient Truth, nine core errors, where Al Gore either misstated the IPCC or prejudicially exaggerated what they found.” John Day is the lawyer for a British parent who sued the British Department
of Education when they tried to distribute An Inconvenient Truth to schools.
High school student stands up to climate change propaganda
Written by Kristin McMurray

An Inconvenient TruthAfter a high school student was forced to watch Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth in English class, she'd had enough.  Rhinebeck High School sophomore, Michelle Dewkett spoke up to her school board about the biased teaching of certain topics, such as climate change.

"[The movie] says (global warming) will kill us all without offering any alternative views…," she said. “This goes against board policy which states ‘Teachers shall approach controversial topics in an impartial and unprejudiced manner.’”

During the school board meeting Dewkett brought to the board's attention that the movie should not have been shown during English class by citing their own bylaws to them, saying “[The] material will not be introduced for it's own sake and must be part of normal instruction.”

Situations like Dewkett's are the very reason that Not Evil Just Wrong was produced.  We hope to see more instances where where our film is shown side by side with Gore's to present a viable alternative to the global warming theory.

Good for you Michelle. The lefties complain about Nativity scenes, anyone praying in school, and all kinds of nonsense. It's time someone took them on at their own game. It's just a shame it wasn't a politician. If you ever run for government I'll vote for you.

Brainwashing 101
When my son was in high school a student teacher issued a homework assignment. Each member of the class was supposed to write a letter to a Congressman asking that he support the Kyoto Protocol. My son and two of his friends wrote their letters but they told the Congressman to disreguard all of the letters from their high school because they had been forced to write them. The student teacher was highly offended. Fortunately the supervising teacher was a little more open minded and dismissed the assignment. The funniest part of the whole thing is that the student teacher was so clueless that she had instructed the class to send the letters to the wrong Congressman. These are the idiots that are influencing our children. Aaargh!

Before everyone says "An Inconvenient Truth" shouldn't be shown in school, let's reconsider. Perhaps it should be shown in school, with the proper presentation. In my science class, it scared many students that we were all doomed. But watching the film was half the assignment. The other half was researching science and fact based evidence that disputed this film (there was no significant DVD that I found that countered it at the time). As a finale, the students consider both sides of the issue, and present their beliefs based on the evidence they researched. Many found plenty to secure or change their mind from the concern that "Inconvenient Truth" instilled. We should all be good stewards of our planet. We don't have to quit having children to eliminate a carbon footprint!
ps Evolution, in the midst of VERY slanted state standards, approached the same way in my classroom. It's not my job to tell them what is right or wrong. It is my job to present truth, and help them decipher misleading information. It is the parent's job to teach then right from wrong. (Wish it happened!)
For those who bash the teachers: you know, they are already brainwashed, too. Most believe they are truly doing the right thing, and teaching the right thing. Afterall, our state standards say we MUST teach evolution, and that the universe is 13.7 billion years old--as fact. Really? I know it seems some have been active in our legislature for that long but I am pretty sure it's a few years short of that. Start with the textbooks. That is where the lies begin. You read them, growing up. It just is a mindset that becomes a "truth" to teachers, and all of a sudden the myth is a fact. Help the teachers, don't curse them. Every training I have had supports Climate Change danger....although I know much if it is unsubstantiated and I can see through it, many teachers are in the training because they don't know in the first place, so this is the only 'EDUCATION' they are getting to pass on to the kids. They are victims, too.
We gotta go bigger...go politics for the change.

I think it's pathetic that a 15 year old girl is doing more about this issue than our politician's and has kindly asked my to remind you that number one producer of pollution is China. People need to educated more before they make judgement. Also, both sides should be shown in schools if any to make it equal.

Hey everyone! To everyone who supports me, thank you so much, its nice to know that I have people behind me around the country when I have somewhat of a small group of supportive friends in New York. To Karen, thanks so much girl love you lots and I can't wait to see you when I get home. And to those who don't support me, I understand where you're coming from and I never said that "An Inconvenient Truth" shouldn't be shown in schools, but only that the Board of Education should follow its own policy that states that as many sides of the controversy should be shown, not just one. When teachers try to impose and stress only one argument on their students, it seems more like indoctrination rather than education. To really educate their students, teachers should show both sides of the argument and allow the children/young adults to chose for themselves which side of the argument they support. I hope this sheds some light on my views and helps you understand where I'm coming from.
Again, to all my supporters, thank you so much for being there for me and I hope this whole ordeal inspires other students who like me, felt wrongly educated on controversial topics, to take a stand in their own schools and make a change the way I'm trying to make a change now.

Michelle--I watched your interview on Fox and Friends with great interest, and applaud you for standing up to the one-sided propaganda designed to scare young people into thinking that carbon dioxide causes global warming, and that drastic measures are needed to prevent some distant catastrophe.

You mentioned Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham in your interview. While I personally agree with most of what these commentators say, their views are interpreted by the general public as political opinion, not science. If you plan to do interviews on media outlets other than Fox News, you would be more effective by mentioning the scientific reasons why carbon dioxide has only a tiny effect on climate, compared to much larger natural effects such as sunspots, volcanism, cosmic rays, and ocean currents, which cannot be altered by mankind. In addition, evidence has recently come to light that some major climatologists deliberately fudged temperature data and tried to hide scientific evidence to mislead people into thinking that carbon dioxide causes global warming.

I am a Chemical and Environmental Engineer in Connecticut, and have joined a group of 14 engineers and scientists, including several meteorologists, who have researched scientific reasons why the effects of carbon dioxide on climate change have been greatly exaggerated, and published several editorials and "Letters to the Editor" in newspapers. We would like to share this information with you, so that you can present the scientific reasons why we do not need to fear "global warming" due to carbon dioxide, and WHY Al Gore's film is scientifically wrong.

If you would like to learn more, please E-mail me at stevenzell@sbcglobal.net, and I can give you the contact information for the rest of our group. Thank you for your courage to "speak truth to power", and you have our full support in your noble efforts.

I am so proud of Michelle for standing up to her school district!! The point is EDUCATION. If the nation debates about a certain topic, how can we not present this to our students? Just looking at the posts below show how differently people view the topic of global warming. It is our responsibility to present both sides to our students and to let them know that there is debate in the nation about it.
Global Warming (and other science, religious, political, and philosophical topics) are not just science topics. They are current events. Students need to know that currently there is debate in the world and different conclusions are being drawn by all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds. Presenting only one side of any issue is educationally irresponsible. Education is about training students HOW to think, not WHAT to think.

Copenhagen treaty
Hi Everyone!
To anyone who may be interested, and according to the topic that we are discussing, i think you all will be - i'm a leader of a group on facebook called "STOP global climate treaty." If any of you would like to join and help me spread the word on the global warming treaty that UN leaders are planning to sign by the end of december 2010, please do so. i'd love to have more help with it!

michelle- congrats on standing up! a couple years ago, we had to watch "an inconvenient truth" in my social issues class, and all did was comment on the teacher's evaluation at the end of the semester saying that i would have liked to hear both sides of an issue, not just one. After reading your story, i wish i had done more. I'm not sure what your future plans are, but once you get to college, the issues you face with the biased education system will only increase, so make sure to keep your courage to stand up for what isn't right!

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas season and happy new year!

Michelle, you have set a great standard!!
One of the sorry consequences of the leftists influencing our public schools is the loss of critical thinking and more and more indoctrination. Michelle, you have just demonstrated what schools are supposed to foster in students by encouraging them to explore the reasons and logic behind theories. Good for you and good for your parents who have given you the courage to speak out against lies and indoctrination.
Further, the push for Kyoto and Copenhagen are driven, not by concerns for the environment, but by people who are only interested in stealing money from industrialized nations. The environmentalist movement, which has always leaned into the extreme anyway, has been hijacked by fear mongers who will use it to try destroy western civilization and industrial success. The movie Avatar is yet another example of indoctrination against industry and technology. Follow the money when it comes to "global warming / climate change / IPCC / Al Gore / Jeffrey Immelt / etc. Look up Carol Browner, the Obama Climate Czar from Socialist International. Look behind the advertising to find the agenda.
It is so sad that so many children have already been taught that humans are a plague on the earth and that they have such bleak futures. Humans have always created ways to adapt to the climate to their best abilities. There lies the forward path....adapting and helping people thrive. Scaring people into thinking they have to give over billions of dollars to third world tyrants who do nothing to help civilization is just insanity...worse, it is criminal. I believe Al Gore should be charged with RICO violations and be locked up for fraud and lying to the Congress. The Inconvenient Truth movie should have been laughed out of existence, much less shown to impressionable students who were told to believe it.
Keep up the good fight for finding truth against the forces of indoctrination, Michelle!! We used to have journalists who did this job, but evidently the majority of them have been bought off and indoctrinated themselves.

Not all 'leftists' support the global warming craze/scare tactics
Just wanted to raise a point here: I am a registered Democrat, and generally liberal in thinking (which basically means I keep my mind open to all possibilities), and generally I vote my conscience and support (or don't) issues and candidates based on scrupulous research (just as Ann and Phelim, whom I consider friends, do). Kudos to Michelle for questioning AIT, her teacher's motivations, and standing up. Everyone should be encouraged to do the same, regardless of what your voter's registration card says. The truth is the truth...and it doesn't matter whether it's Algore lying or GWB. The truth will out. So please...to anyone who wishes to slap a label or use the 'leftist' clarion cry...fuggedaboutit. We're not all cut out of the same cloth. I would not generalise and assume all 'rightists' support the same issues/candidates. Can we all agree that the global warming scare is hogwash without labelling who believes that or doesn't?

I did not say Democrat or liberal.
There is a difference in the definition of classic liberal as opposed to the current definition of liberal.

If you are referring to my post, I did not use the words Democrat or liberal in my entire comment. You are the one equating Democrats with leftists.
You said:

I use the word leftist to discern the source of goals and policies that are not constitutional and are Marxist in nature. If that doesn't describe you, why are you so defensive? Maybe you are realizing the Democrat Party doesn't represent you. I am glad to hear you are aware that the "global warming scare is hogwash." It certainly isn't the conservative right who is pushing the Kyoto / Copenhagen / Cap and Trade economic rape of America. It is definitely leftists / socialists who are pushing that agenda. And it is they who are indoctrinating students in schools to that agenda as well...

Kudos Michelle,

Thank you for challenging your School District. Misinformation in schools has been around for a long time, When I was a college chemistry teacher in the 1970's & 80's Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring was all the rage like Al Gore's theory is today. Her book was also based upon exaggeration and taking examples out of context.

Keep up the good fight in exposing the truth.
