But this is what is being suggested in the House of Representatives this evening. The 900 page Cap & Trade bill had a 300 hundred page amendment tabled last night at 3am. Then just three hours were set aside for a debate today. Massive last minute changes and a pushed through vote. But then it became farcical. The amendment was not even added to the bill. When Congressmen asked for a copy of the bill they were told they could leave, go to the cloakroom and download the amendment from the Internet and add it together themselves.
This laughable procedure was for a bill which Rep Markey said has the "moral imperative of Civil Rights Act."
It is difficult to raise taxes during a recession but the Democrats are going to try to. However so scared are the Democrats that they could not find enough Congressmen to speak publicly in support of such a bill. They did not use all the time allotted to them to speak on "Cap & Trade" which Republican opponents described as the biggest tax increase in US history.
Americans should be very nervous tonight as Congressmen vote on whether to raise taxes during a recession and whether to make energy more expensive just as small businesses are facing their biggest challenges in 60 years.
